Weather station

Davis VP2 Plus with extras

The station comprises of a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus and Leaf, temp, soil station. The leaf wetness has been modified so that it is now used as a Rain Duration sensor, what this mean is, as soon as it starts to rain, you get to know about it on the site, it means you do not have to wait until at least 0.2mm of rain has fallen, this sensor is also heated, therefore, as soon as it stops raining, you will know in the time that it takes the heater to dry the leaf sensor. I have have also added a home made night cloud sensor using a modified temp probe sensor.

I also have my old Oregon Scientific WMR 968 station in use and recording data for comparison only, this also comprises of home made sensors, namely Solar in a jar and Night cloud sensors. The data from this station is not used for the website or anything else other than to compare against the Davis station.

The outdoor thermometer sensor is housed in a 24hr fan assisted solar radiation shield mounted at about 13ft on the mast
The outdoor humidity sensor is housed in a 24hr fan assisted solar radiation shield mounted at about 13ft on the mast
The Barometor is built in to the console
The anemometer is sited at 10m
The anemometer is sited at 10m
The Rain gauge is an automatic tipping bucket x 2 (one for comparison)
There is also a 4" manual Rain gauge.
The Solar sensor measures the solar w/m2, it also tells us the sky conditions, i.e., cloudy, sunny etc.
The UV measures the Ultra Violet rays
The Leaf Wetness sensor is modified, its sits on top of a box that has a heater inside, its used to measure rain duration and only any good for telling us if its raining/snowing etc
The Soil Moisture sensor is sited at about 8" deep
The Snow sensor is a 30cm ruler ;) :D
